Oct. 25, 2004

The George Mason women's volleyball team had an excellent weekend grabbing a pair of much-needed wins over conference opponents. On Monday, the Colonial Athletic Association rewarded the efforts of a pair of players, as senior setter Jesica Umansky was named Co-CAA Player of the Week while freshman outside hitter Jaqueline Kohler was named CAA Rookie of the Week.

Umansky had a tremendous weekend, recording 96 assists in the seven games for an average of 13.71 assists per game. She also had 18 digs, an average of 2.57 digs per game. She also had six service aces in the two matches, including five on Friday night against UNC Wilmington. In a straight-set win against William & Mary on Saturday, Umansky had 44 assists, nearly 15 per game. This is the first time this season that Umansky has been named CAA Player of the Week . In her career, she has been all-CAA every year (first-team once, second-team twice), a two-time member of the AVCA All-East Region first team, a three-time All-Virginia selection (first-team once, second-team twice), and the CAA Setter of the Year (2002).

Kohler played excellent as well in her two matches, leading all players on Saturday with 16 kills. She finished the week with 2 kills and 17 digs. It is the second time this month that Kohler has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week. She also earned the honor for the week ending October 3.

The Patriots are currently 10-4, 5-4 on the year, in fourth place in the CAA. Mason hosts George Washington on Tuesday in its final non-conference match of the year. On Friday, the Patriots travel to James Madison. On Saturday, they play at Virginia Commonwealth.
