RICHMOND, Va. -- George Mason freshman Alison Feldman (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) was named Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 17, the CAA announced Monday. It is the first such honor from the CAA for Feldman, and is the second award for a Patriot women's soccer player this season.
Feldman made the first point of her career a memorable one, assisting on the game-winning score as time expired in George Mason's 3-2 double-overtime win at Hofstra Friday (Oct. 15). Feldman played a diagonal ball to junior midfielder Danielle MacDonald (Burke, Va.), who scored with no time left to give the Patriots and new head coach Diane Drake their first CAA win of the year. Feldman was also part of a Mason defense that recorded a 0-0 shutout at Drexel on Sunday (Oct. 17).
Feldman has seen action in 13 games this season, earning six starts, and has taken two shots.
George Mason (6-6-3 overall, 1-2-2 CAA) is unbeaten in its last three contests - all of which have gone into double overtime. The Patriots are 2-0-3 in OT games this season and 8-0-9 in their last 17 OT matches, dating back to 2001.
Mason is tied for seventh in the 10-team CAA field with five points. The Patriots close out their regular season schedule with a four-game homestand, beginning with UNC Wilmington Friday at 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium, followed by a visit from league-leading Va. Commonwealth Sunday at 1 p.m.
