NEWARK, DEL -- The University of Delaware volleyball team won it's ninth straight home game on Barbara Viera Court on Friday against George
Mason, 3-2 (22-30, 30-20, 30-26, 29-31, 15-8) defeating the Patriots for
the first time in 12 meetings, to tie the Delaware record for most
consecutive home wins set by the 1994 team.
Allison Lutz (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) now places No. 9 on the
Delaware list for assists in a career with 1,014 in the 2004 season as
rookie with 52 of those coming against George Mason.
Taylor Govaars (Balboa, CA/Newport Harbor) pulled into the top five for
digs in a career with 1,429 as she dug 28 of those against the patriots
to lead the Hens defense.
Claire McCormack (Downers Grove, IL/Downers Grove South) returned for
the Hens after a three-match hiatus due to injury posting another
double-double, she leads the 2004 team in the category, with 17 kills
and 21 digs as Sarah Engle (Yorba Linda, CA/Esperanza) also recorded a
double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Colleen Walsh (Cleveland,
OH/Regina) added 17 kills, Val Murphy (Round Hill, VA/Loudoun Valley) 15
kills and 4 blocks, and Niecy Taylor (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola) led the
team in blocks with eight.
Natalia Porosa of George Mason led both squads in kills with 19 and also
recorded two blocks. Jessica Umansky posted 52 assists and 16 digs while
Niki Bernardes recorded 20 digs, leading the Patriots defense
Delaware, which is now 16-4 (5-1 CAA) on the season, will face Towson on
Saturday, October 16 at 7 p.m. on Barbara Viera Court
