Fairfax, VA--Five players scored in double digits Friday night to help lead George Mason's women's basketball team (7-2, 2-0 CAA) to its fourth-straight win with a 68-54 defeat over Drexel (3-7, 1-1) at the Patriot Center.
Senior forward Vernessa Neamo (Forestville, MD) collected her third double-double of the season as she registered team-highs in both points and rebounds with 15 and 12, respectively. Neamo also added five assists and a game-best three steals in 38 minutes of play. Freshman forward Kristin Higy (Akron, OH) had a stellar showing for the Patriots as she came off the bench to shoot 75 percent from the field (6-of-8) for a career-high 14 points. Senior forward Susan Otim (Fairfax, VA) went 4-of-6 from long range, which marks a new career-best for Otim in 3-point field goals, and ended the night with 13 points for Mason. Junior guard Laura Kooij (Den Helder, Holland) made 3-of-4 treys and scored 13 points, while senior Jen Derevjanik (Sr.; Staten Island, NY) netted 11 for the Patriots.
Junior forward Katrina Martin poured in a game-high 20 points (9-of-13), 14 of which were scored in the first half, and also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds for Drexel. Sophomore guard Catherine Scanlon scored 13 points and added three assists and one steal, along with seven rebounds in 35 minutes of play for the Dragons.
Mason shot 45 percent on the night (23-of-51), while Drexel went 22-of-54 from the field (41 percent). The Patriots outrebounded the Dragons, 34-27, and Mason dominated from beyond the arc as they shot 44 percent to Drexel's 18 percent.
This marks the fourth-straight game in which the Patriots have held their opponent to under 60 points.
Mason will return to action on Jan. 11 when they travel to Richmond, VA, to compete against Virginia Commonwealth (4-6, 1-1) at 2 p.m.
