Fort Wayne, IN -
The George Mason University men's volleyball season continued the 2004 campaign on Saturday afternoon with a road match at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and while the Patriots lost the match, it was much closer than the 3-0 final score would suggest.
After dropping the first game by a large margin, the Patriots played a much tougher brand of volleyball, but it ultimately proved to be too little as George Mason lost 30-16, 30-28, 35-33.
The difference in the mach proved to be hitting percentage. While the Patriots were able to convert on just 15 percent of their attacks, IPFW was much more successful. The Mastadons made 34 percent of their shots, led by Matt Zbyszewski, who had 22 kills and a .381 hitting percentage.
Felix Campos had 19 kills and a .233 hitting percentage for the Patriots. He also had six digs. Dave Egan had game highs with 41 assists and eight digs.
George Mason takes the court again on Saturday at 7 p.m. when it opens its home season against Lewis University, the defending NCAA national champions.
