FAIRFAX, VA--George Mason University's head women's basketball coach Debbie Taneyhill has announced the hiring of Lisa (Hosac) Lyons as an assistant coach as of Sept. 15, 2003.

Most recently, Lyons worked at the University of South Carolina where she was the administrative assistant coach from August 2001-July 2003. Lyons handled film exchange, recruiting, scouting and also acted as an academic liaison while at USC. During the offseason, Lyons was the summer camp director where she was responsible for every aspect of the Gamecock's women's basketball camps.

"We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to hire Lisa," said Taneyhill. "She brings great work experience, having coached in the SEC at South Carolina, and also brings great playing experience having played at Virginia."

Prior to USC, Lyons worked as an investment banker for Lehman Brothers in New York City, and also coached at the University of Virginia's summer camps from 1997-99.

Lyons attended the University of Virginia and was a three-year starter during her stint as a Cavalier (1996-2000). Lyons earned team captain honors senior year and was awarded the team's MVP award in the same season. The Littleton, Colo. native made the ACC honor roll from 1998-2000 and was the recipient of the Bob Williams Award for academics in 1999. During her sophomore year, Lyons was selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Conference as one of 375 student-athletes nationwide.

"Lisa brings knowledge and passion for the game, which will make her a great addition to our staff, as well as a tremendous resource for our players," said Taneyhill.

Lyons graduated from UVa in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in economics and a minor in anthropology.
