Mason Women's Volleyball Defeated By Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - George Mason women's volleyball team (4-7) dropped a four-game decision to the University of Maryland (9-2) at the Comcast Center Gymnasium in College Park, MD Tuesday night with scores of 30-19, 30-27, 29-31, 30-26.

Maryland won games one and two behind strong efforts from Lynnsy Jones and outside hitter Maria DiLiviowho each tallied 10 kills to help the Terps jump out to a 2-0 lead. DiLivio finished the match with 19 kills and 15 digs.

The Patriots fought back and won game three, behind six kills from senior outside hitter Aline Pereira (Sao Paolo, Brazil). Pereira collected her fifth double-double on the season with 11 digs and a match-high 34 kills for Mason. In addition, senior setter Jesica Umansky (Buenes Aires, Argentina) posted a match-high 18 digs for the Patriots.

The Patriots had an early 10-6 lead in game four, but the Terrapins battled back to tie the game at 15. From there, the Terrapins took a 17-16 lead on a kill by middle blocker Stephanie Smith and never trailed again, winning the fourth game by a score of 30-26. Smith posted 10 kills for the match.

The Patriots return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Towson, MD to square-off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. The alumni match, which was on the original schedule, has been cancelled.
