FAIRFAX, VA--Senior outside hitter Aline Pereira (Sao Paolo, Brazil) was named Colonial Athletic Association women's volleyball player of the week by the conference office earlier today for the third time this season for her valiant efforts against Hofstra and Delaware this past weekend. Pereira's two other honors came on Sept. 15 and Oct. 20.
Pereira put together a record-breaking performance in George Mason's five-game win over Hofstra on Nov. 14, and led the Patriots to a four-game win over Delaware the following day, which secured the second seed for Mason in the 2003 CAA Volleyball Championship. Pereira slammed down a career-high and NCAA season-high 43 kills and added 19 digs, along with four service aces in the victory over Hofstra. Against the Pride, Pereira amassed 102 total swings which marks the 12th-higest five-game match total in NCAA history. In the win over the Blue Hens, Pereira tallied 32 kills and 11 digs, giving her 14 double-doubles on the season. On the week, Pereira tallied 75 kills for an average of 8.33 kills per game, a .340 hitting percentage, 30 digs, five service aces and four total blocks.
The Patriots, which are a No. 2 seed, will face No. 3-seeded James Madison on Nov. 21 with first serve at 4:30 p.m. in the first semifinal match of the CAA Championship. The remaining schools in the four-team field are No. 1-seeded Towson and No. 4-seeded Hofstra.
