FAIRFAX, VA ... George Mason's defense posted its ninth shutout of the season as the Patriots and William & Mary played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime in a Colonial Athletic Association men's college soccer game Friday at George Mason Stadium.

George Mason improved to 9-4-5 overall and to 3-1-3 in the CAA with the draw, snapping a 12-game losing streak against William & Mary and moving to 2-0-5 in overtime games this season (15-6-18 over the last nine seasons). The Tribe remained unbeaten (3-0-1) in its last four games as they improved to 9-4-3 overall, 4-2-1 in the CAA. Both teams are ranked in the South Atlantic Region, with the Tribe at No. 7 and the Patriots tied for 10th.

The Patriots held a 12-11 advantage in shots for the game, and Mason nearly ended the contest twice in the second half. A 20-yard shot in the 64th minute by sophomore Teba McKnight caromed off William & Mary freshman goalkeeper Kris Rake to Patriot junior Karim Manneh, but his shot over a charging Rake went wide left. Then, in the 86th minute, Manneh had another shot in the penalty area stopped by a Tribe defender.

In the 96th minute (first overtime period), George Mason again had a chance to win as junior Matt Mendy's shot went off Rake's fingertips and off the crossbar back to sophomore Damian O'Rourke, but his header was high. Then William & Mary got into the act in the second overtime as sophomore Patrick Scherder had a shot go just wide of the left post in the 105th minute and Tribe freshman Brendan McCurdy sent another shot wide in the 108th minute.

Rake had three saves as he posted his second full shutout for William & Mary, while Patriot junior John O'Hara recorded his eighth full shutout and made two saves.

George Mason plays its final home game of the season Sunday at 1 p.m. as it welcomes CAA foe Old Dominion (ranked second in the nation by Soccer America, third by SoccerTimes.com and College Soccer News and fourth by the NSCAA). William & Mary travels to conference rival James Madison Sunday at 2 p.m.
