RICHMOND, Va. ? George Mason senior Aline Pereira had a match-high 29 kills
to lead the Patriots to a 3-1 win over Virginia Commonwealth in volleyball
Friday at the ALLTEL Pavilion.
Down 22 to 15 in game three, George Mason scored seven straight points to
tie and went on to win the game 30-27. The Patriots improved their record to
5-8 overall and 1-1 in the CAA. VCU fell to 0-2 in league play and 6-12
overall.
Senior Laura Connell led the Rams with 15
kills, followed by senior Meghan Boyle with 13 kills.
The Patriots took the first game 30-22. VCU won the second game 30-24, but
then fell to George Mason in the next two, losing 30-27 and 30-21.
Freshman Rachel Ross played a strong match for VCU
with 16 digs and nine kills. Sophomore Griselle Lopez-Pereira led VCU in digs with 22.
Junior Jessica Umansky helped the Patriots to victory with 56 assists and 16
digs. Also making a big impact for George Mason was sophomore Niki Bernardes
with 11 kills and 15 digs.
