TOWSON, MD ... Towson scored in the third minute of the game and went on to defeat George Mason, 1-0, in a Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer game at the Tigers' Towson Center Field on Sunday afternoon.
Towson improved to 6-9 overall and to 3-4 in the CAA with the victory, while George Mason remained winless (0-4-1) in its last five games as it fell to 7-6-4 overall, 2-3-2 in the CAA. The Patriots have failed to score in each of their last four contests.
Senior Holly Noga scored her Towson team-leading fourth goal of the season at 2:42, taking passes from junior Jen Van Horn and sophomore Shannon Jackson in front of the goal and scoring the eventual game-winner.
George Mason had several scoring opportunities following the Noga goal, but the Tiger defense and senior goalkeeper Yasmin Alter held the Patriots scoreless despite Mason's 10-8 advantage in shots. Alter made a season-high eight saves in posting her fifth shutout of the season, while junior Sarah Coughlin made five saves for the visiting Patriots.
The Patriots return home to George Mason Stadium for their final games of the regular season. Mason hosts CAA leader Hofstra Thursday at 7 p.m. and concludes the season by entertaining Drexel Saturday at 1 p.m.
