ROMEOVILLE, IN ... The George Mason University men's volleyball team dropped their second straight match, falling to No. 10 Lewis, 3-0 (30-23, 30-19, 30-16), on Friday evening at Vernon Carey Arena. The Patriots fell to 1-3, with all three losses to ranked teams, while the Flyers improved to 3-2.
George Mason posted a weak offensive effort, hitting just .101 as a team, while Lewis had four players hitting over .500 for a combined .382 team hitting percentage. Lewis also had an offensive edge with eight service aces to just two by Mason, and on defense the Flyers outblocked the Patriots, 10 to seven.
Fabiano Barreto led Lewis with a match-high 12 kills, a match-high five service aces, six digs and two block solos. Jeff Soler added nine kills, on .529 hitting, with four blocks and an ace.
In the loss the Patriots were led by sophomore Shaun Powell (Toronto, Canada/Francis Libermann) with a team-high 11 kills, four digs, three blocks and an ace. Sophomore Felix Campos (Puerto Nuevo, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Antonio) added a season-high nine kills, three digs and two blocks. Sophomore Dave Egan (Toronto, Canada/Senator O'Connor) finished with a team-high 23 assists, two blocks, two digs and a kill.
The Patriots return to action on Sunday, January 26, at No. 13 IPFW at 4 p.m. in a regionally televised match.
