George Mason Defeats Duquesne, 79-72

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Mark Davis and Jesse Young each scored 23 points lead George Mason to its first win of the season, 79-72 over Duquesne Monday night.

Davis, who transferred from Palm Beach Community College, made his first five shots and scored 13 consecutive points to give the Patriots (1-3) a 20-8 lead with 12:50 left in the first half.

Young, who had a game-high seven rebounds, scored four points as the Patriots took control with a 10-0 run midway through the second half.

Jimmy Tricco had 20 points and six assists to lead Duquesne (1-4).

Jon Larranaga triggered George Mason's offense with a career-high eight assists.

Raoul Heinen, who had four steals, capped GMU's 10-0 run with a running layup for a 55-49 lead with 12:18 remaining in the game. Tricco pulled the Dukes to 69-63 with consecutive 3-pointers with 2:13 left, but they never got closer.
