Freshmen Lead Patriots Past Flames, 2-0

Freshmen Sean Malee and Steve Alabi each scored goals to lead George Mason to a 2-0 victory over Liberty in a non-conference men's college soccer game Tuesday night at Liberty Soccer Field in Lynchburg, VA.

George Mason improved to 5-1-2 with the victory, while Liberty fell to 6-3-1. The Patriots were tied for sixth with Virginia Commonwealth in this week's South Atlantic Region rankings and the Flames were ranked eighth.

Malee scored his second goal of the season at the 9:11 mark off an assist from sophomore David Quinn. George Mason made the score 2-0 with as Alabi contributed his first career goal off an assist from junior Mirza Kurspahic at the 63:36 mark. Alabi missed the first six games of the season due to NCAA regulations in regards to eligibility issues related to his international playing background in England.

Sophomore goalkeeper John O'Hara made three saves to post his fourth shutout of the season and the eighth of his career, all coming in his last 18 games. O'Hara entered the week ranked first in the Colonial Athletic Association and the South Atlantic Region and 14th in the nation with a 0.66 goals-against average.

George Mason opens its CAA schedule Saturday as it visits James Madison at 7 p.m.
