Fairfax, VA ... George Mason University senior forward Katy Robertson of the women's soccer team has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week.
The award is for accomplishments from Oct. 7-13. It is the third time Robertson has been honored by the CAA in her career, as she also was named conference Player of the Week once each as a freshman and as a sophomore.
A 5-7 native of Atlanta, GA, and a 1998 graduate of Brookwood High School, Robertson had an excellent week as she scored a goal in each of George Mason's two victories. She had the lone goal off a 30-yard free kick in a 1-0 win over Towson Friday, and she scored the first goal off a rebound of a missed shot in Mason's 2-1 overtime victory against Delaware Sunday.
After missing all of last season with a knee injury (she suffered a similar injury at the end of her freshman season), Robertson has returned to her accustomed spot atop the George Mason scoring lists. She currently leads the Patriots with 11 points on four goals and three assists, sharing the team lead in goals with fellow seniors Caroline Kent and Katy McGee and sharing the lead in assists with sophomore Sarah Wilkinson.
A three-time All-CAA selection, Robertson led the Patriots with 17 goals and 11 assists as she earned CAA Rookie of the Year honors in 1998, then she set Mason records with 23 goals and 60 points (also a conference record) in 1999. She had 10 goals and seven assists in 2000 before suffering her latest knee injury. For her George Mason career, she ranks tied for second with Sherry Worsham with 35 assists and is third in both goals (54) and points (143).
"Katy has been an integral part of the women's soccer program since her arrival in Fairfax four years ago," said Patriot head coach Jac Cicala, who is in his 11th year at the helm of the program. "We're very pleased with the recognition the CAA has given to Katy and to George Mason University."
Mason (5-8, 3-2 CAA) travels to Maryland Wednesday to meet the Terrapins at 7 p.m., then the Patriots return home to host conference foe UNC Wilmington Sunday at 1 p.m.
