Princeton, NJ ... Princeton scored a pair of second-half goals as the nationally ranked Tigers defeated George Mason, 3-1, in a non-conference women's college soccer game Wednesday in Princeton, NJ.
Princeton (ranked 15th by Soccer Buzz, 18th by the NSCAA, 19th by SoccerTimes.com and 22nd by Soccer America) improved to 8-0 with the victory, while George Mason fell to 3-7.
The Tigers took the lead in the 22nd minute as Krista Ariss scored off an assist from Rochelle Willis. The Patriots tied the score, however, as senior Katy McGee scored her third goal of the season off the rebound of her own shot at 32:34 and the game was tied, 1-1, at the half.
Princeton got the go-ahead goal as Esmerelda Negron scored off an assist from Joan Cundey in the 57th minute, and the Tigers added an insurance goal as Emily Behncke took a pass from Kelly Sosa and found the back of the net in the 85th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Coughlin made seven saves as she started the game for the Patriots and played the first half, while senior Naomi Hines had two saves as she played the final 45 minutes. Jean Poster had two saves in goal for Princeton.
George Mason takes a 1-1 record in the Colonial Athletic Association into Saturday's conference matchup at William & Mary. Game time is 7 p.m.
