Fairfax, VA ... George Mason senior Katy Robertson scored off a free kick in the fifth minute to lift the Patriots to a 1-0 victory over Towson in a Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer game Friday night at George Mason Stadium.
George Mason snapped a two-game losing streak as it improved to 4-8 overall, 2-2 in the CAA, while Towson dropped its fifth straight game to fall to 4-8-1 overall, 0-5 in the CAA.
Robertson scored her third goal of the season and 53rd of her career (third on George Mason's all-time list) at 4:49. Sophomore Sarah Wilkinson touched the ball to the side for Robertson, who sent a 30-yard indirect free kick into the upper-left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The George Mason defense made the goal stand up as it posted its third shutout of the season, with the Patriots holding a 16-6 advantage in shots against Towson. Senior Naomi Hines and sophomore Sarah Coughlin split halves in goal for Mason, each making two saves, while junior Yasmin Alter had four saves for the Tigers.
George Mason remains at home to host CAA foe Delaware Sunday at 4 p.m.
