George Mason women's volleyball player Aline Pereira (Sao Paolo, Brazil) was tabbed Colonial Athletic Association player of the week Monday.
Pereira, a junior outside hitter, recorded a .385 hitting percentage and averaged 6.50 kills per game in wins over Virginia Commonwealth and William & Mary this past weekend. The victories gave the Patriots a 2-0 start to league play and improved the squad's overall record to 6-3.
Against Virginia Commonwealth, Pereira, who entered the weekend leading all NCAA Division I players with an average of 6.38 kills per game, led the Patriots with 23 kills and 10 digs. She hit .304 and also added a service ace and a block assist.
In the contest against defending conference champion William & Mary, Pereira hit .385 and posted a match-high 26 kills. She also had six digs and four service aces. As a team, the Patriots dropped 17 service aces on the Tribe, the best single-match showing for Mason since the 1989 season.
Pereira and the women's volleyball team host James Madison Tuesday, in a 7 p.m. CAA showdown at John Linn Gymnasium.
