CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Stetson Hairston had 18 points and Jermaine Dearman
pitched in 17 and grabbed nine boards to lead Southern Illinois over George
Mason 83-74 Sunday.
Sylvester Willis had 16 points for the Salukis (1-0), and Kent Williams
added 15. Hairston got six assists.
Southern Illinois led 36-29 at the half in its season opener and shot
4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the first. The Salukis were 13-of-18 from
the line for the game.
Mark Davis scored 25 and had five rebounds for George Mason (0-2). Jesse
Young grabbed five boards, Raoul Heinen had 16 points and Jai Lewis scored 12.
Jon Larranaga played 38 minutes before fouling out. He had six points, four
rebounds and four assists.
