Taylor Unroe

Taylor Unroe enters her second season as assistant coach of the George Mason women’s volleyball team in 2016.

Unroe joined the Patriots prior to the 2015 season after a standout career at the University of Florida.

“Taylor is the epitome of elite.  Taylor is a proven winner, she is smart, diligent, and motivated to be the best in everything she does,” said Mason head coach Jackie Simpson-Kirr.  “She is a great example for the young ladies on our team on and off the court.”

A native of Muncie, Ind., Unroe graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Family, Youth & Community Science in 2014 and earned her Master’s Degree in 2015.  After earning a medical redshirt in 2010, Unroe finished her decorated career as the second all-time digs leader with 1,558 and tied for fifth in sets played (449) and aces (152).

Unroe was named the 2013 SEC Libero of the Year, the first University of Florida player to earn the honor in program history.  Unroe was part of three SEC Championship teams (2010, 2012 and 2014), earning a NCAA berth in all four seasons of competition.  While competing, Unroe worked for the Florida Gator Volleyball Camps as a coach specializing in liberos and other defensive specialists.

“Taylor has won at every level of the game: high school, club, and fortunately for us, college.  She is used to winning and understands all that goes into championship teams,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said.  “George Mason hired a winner who only enhances their program.”

Prior to signing with the Gators, Unroe was a member of a four-time Indiana state championship team that finished with an undefeated 40-0 record her senior season.  As a senior, she was named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year and was also a 2009 Under Armour Girls High School All-American.  A two-time AVCA All-America, Unroe was one of 26 players in the nation named to PrepVolleyball.com’s Defensive Dandies first team, which recognizes outstanding defensive players across the country.
