Christopher Lewis enters his fourth season with George Mason women's basketball program heading into the 2016-17 season.
The Patriots' offense has seen gradual improvement under Lewis' guidance. The Patriots averaged 67.8 points in 2014-15, up from 54.5 points per game in 2012-13. He also helped coach three-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference guard Taylor Brown, who left as the program's second all-time leading scorer with 1,693 points in just three years.
Lewis came to Fairfax after spending the 2012-13 season at Missouri State with Mason head coach Nyla Milleson.
Prior to MSU, Lewis spent four years at Morgan State where he served as the program’s recruiting coordinator. While at Morgan State, Lewis helped lead the Bears to a pair of second-place finishes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and a WNIT appearance in 2011.
For three years prior to accepting the position at Morgan State, Lewis was the head women’s coach at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis. While at Harris-Stowe State University, Lewis helped turnaround a struggling program into an NAIA National Tournament participant in just his second season. In 2007-08, the squad went 23-10 and earned a No. 20 national ranking and finished the season with an NAIA Round of 16 appearance.
Lewis spent the 2004-05 season as an assistant coach at Missouri Baptist University and in the process recruited two players to NAIA All-America status.
Lewis earned his coaching start at his alma mater, Emporia State where he served as a student assistant coach in both the men’s and women’s programs. While at Emporia State, the women’s program compiled a 93-27 mark in four seasons and earned a Division II national ranking as high as No. 2 in both the 2001-02 and 2003-04 seasons. Additionally, the women’s program won two Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championships and made three trips to the national tournament.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Lewis received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Emporia State in 2003. He is married to the former Albany Blakemore.
