Redshirt freshman DJ McGee competed at the 59th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships over the weekend highlighted by his win over a returning MAC Champion. He entered as the 9th seed. In the first round, he pinned Logan Swaw of the University of Illinois in 1:02. In the second round, he won by 10-1 major decision over Gavin Model of the University of Wisconsin. In the third round, McGee wrestled the 8th seed, Alex Hornfeck of West Virginia and he won by 4-2 decision. In the quarter finals, he faced top seed and two-time All-American, Jacori Teemer of Arizona State and dropped a heartbreaker in sudden victory in that match sending him to the wrestle back round. In the placing round, McGee beat Rocco Camillaci of Princeton and then downed James Harrington of Harvard to make the consolation semifinals. In the consolation semifinals, he beat defending MAC Champion and the top-ranked wrestler in the MAC, Johnny Lovett, of Central Michigan. In the third place match, he lost a tight contest, 2-4, to Lucas Revano of the University of Pennsylvania. Overall, McGee went 6-2 at the Midlands Championship with a 4th place finish.
