Simmons, native of Waynesboro, Va., shattered the school record in the weight throw at the VMI Team Challenge with a personal-record, first-place toss of 20.15 meters. The mark ranks second in the A-10 and 27th in the NCAA. He also claimed first in the shot put (17.61m).
