Nikita Gubenko is in his first season as an assistant coach after playing for the Patriots since 2020-21.

Gubenko finished his career with his best season and off-season. The grad student lead the team in scoring, averaging 72.38 strokes per round. He earned seven top 25 finishes and ranked 12th in the Atlantic 10 Conference. He finished the season with 12 par or better rouns out of 29, ranking fourth in George Mason history.

The McLean, Va. native was crowned champion of the prestigious Kenridge Invitational played in June 2024. Gubenko shot even-par (72-72-66) for a one-stroke win over Vanderbilt golfer Chase Nevins at the Par 70, 6,821-yard Main Course designed by Fred Findlay in the 1920s. The win marks the second consecutive George Mason alum to win the event as Scott Shingler '95 won in 2023.

Gubenko advanced to the finals of the Virginia State Golf Association Amateur Championship held in late June at Bellehaven Country Club in Alexandria, Va.

Gubenko qualified for the 32-person match play portion of the tournament after recording a four-under par 140 (68-72) in 36 holes of stroke play at the par 72, 6,900-yard course.  He finished in second place among the field of 120 golfers.
