This is Liran’s first season with George Mason. He is joining the team after recently moving to the DC area in August of 2025. He is also currently coaching at Metro Volleyball Club and is the head coach for the women’s team for the 2026 Maccabi Games.
Previously, Coach Liran was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama State University Volleyball. Following a successful season, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach. In his role, Zamir led the defensive strategy, implementing proven defensive schemes that had brought him success in previous coaching positions. As recruiting coordinator, Zamir made an immediate impact, securing top-tier talent, including AVCA Watch List and NTDP players. His efforts helped propel the Hornets to a playoff appearance in the 2024 season, while mentoring athletes who earned 1st and 2nd Team All-SWAC honors.
Before joining Alabama State, Zamir served for five seasons as the Men's Volleyball Head Coach at Santa Monica College. Under his leadership, the 2024 team finished second in the conference and advanced to the state quarterfinals. He mentored players who were named Player of the Year, First-Team, and one Second-Team All-WSC player during the year, as well as led the state in digs. He also assisted Coach Nicky Sanlin with the USA Volleyball U21 Men’s NTDP winter session in Anaheim and coached the 16’s team at MB Surf Volleyball Club that year.
In 2023, he assisted the Men's Collegiate National Team of the NTDP under Coach Chris McGown. That same year, he was honored with the AVCA Diversity Award for fostering an inclusive and diverse program at SMC. His leadership guided the team to consecutive state playoff appearances.
In 2022, Zamir led SMC to a third-place conference finish and a sixth-place overall ranking, securing another state playoff berth. That season, he developed two First-Team and two Second-Team All-WSC players and was recognized with the prestigious AVCA Thirty Under 30 award. Under his leadership, SMC consistently ranked among the state’s top defensive teams, excelling in total digs, digs per set, solo blocks, block assists, and blocks per set. Off the court, Zamir spearheaded record-breaking fundraising efforts, securing more funds in 2023 than all previous SMC coaches combined. He also organized a historic “All-Time” alumni event, bringing together SMC volleyball alumni dating back to the 1960s.
Many of his former players advanced to compete at various NCAA levels. Zamir himself played in the Israeli Premier League for Hapoel Jerusalem. Liran is the host of the podcast “International Coaches Club” and the author of the book “Don’t Coach Like Me”. He is a certified personal trainer and holds a bachelor’s degree in history, as well as a master’s degree in sports management from the University of Kansas.
