Jeanne Medford has been the foundation of the George Mason athletic department for more than 40 years having begun her career in the business office after graduating with a degree in accounting from George Mason in 1982.

The longest tenured Mason Athletics employee has been associated with the department since she was an undergrad, working as a work study student in 1978, the first season the Patriots basketball team became an NCAA Division I institution.

Jeanne has served many roles in her distinguished career in the business office, beginning as the athletic business manager. She currently is the Director, Business & Financial Services for Intercollegiate Athletics. In that role, Jeanne oversees the daily operations of the athletic business office including financial reporting for the NCAA, EADA, and A-10 Conference, financial management of the ICA and Field House budgets, transaction processing and reconciliations, and monthly closing tasks.

One of the primary things Jeanne Medford is known for is her work ethic, often the first one in and the last one out of the office. For her dedication to the university, athletics, and Mason’s student-athletes, Medford earned the university’s October Employee of the Month in 2022.

In her career with George Mason, Jeanne has help support generations of student-athletes and was a part of the growth of the department with the addition of five programs between 1982 and 1999. When Medford’s not in her office, she’s most likely at a game cheering on the Patriots. She lists men’s basketball’s Mason’s magical run to the Final 4 in 2006 as her favorite George Mason memory.

A resident in Northern Virginia since 1963, Jeanne attended Bishop O’Connell and was a student-athlete on the inaugural girls track team.

A self-proclaimed sports fanatic, Jeanne’s office is a shrine to both her alma mater’s green and gold and her love of the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys.

Jeanne currently resides in Centreville, Va. Stating the birth of her daughter Trina has her greatest personal memory, Jeanne is also a proud grandmother of four granddaughters.
