Dr. Dominique Banville, associate professor in the College of Education and Human Development, was appointed as George Mason's NCAA faculty athletic representative in July 2016. Dr. Banville has been at Mason for more than 25 years.

In her role, Dr. Banville provides campus leadership on athletically related issues, serving as a liaison between the university and the athletics department, and representing the university in matters related to the Atlantic 10 Conference and the NCAA. In addition, she chairs the George Mason Athletic Council, a University Standing committee that advises university president Dr. Gregory Washington on all matters related to intercollegiate athletics.

NCAA member institutions are required by the organization's bylaws to appoint at least one faculty athletic representative, whose duties are determined by the institution. The fundamental responsibilities of the FAR are to evaluate and ensure the academic integrity of the intercollegiate athletics program, to facilitate institutional control of athletics, and to enhance the student-athletes' experience and ensure their well-being.

Dr. Banville is also the Associate Dean for Student and Academic Affairs for the College of Education and Human Development, and a faculty member in the Health and Physical Education Licensure Program. Her research interests focus on the curriculum and instruction of physical education at the secondary level, as well as teacher preparation and professional development.

She served on the NCAA Division I Progress towards Degree Appeal Committee from 2021 to 2025 and currently chairs the A-10 FARs Committee, as well as being an ex officio member of the A-10 Compliance Committee. Throughout her time at Mason, she has held several critical leadership positions, including Director of the School of Kinesiology, Faculty Senator, Chair of the Academic Policies Committee, and member of the  Executive Committee. She is a graduate of the Mason Leadership Legacy Program, a program designed to develop and strengthen the leadership culture at George Mason, and the Emerging Leader Supervisor Series, which is intended for George Mason employees in supervisory roles to further develop their skills.
