Cheryl Hairston joined the George Mason Athletic Training Staff in December 2020. She is a 2015 graduate of the Mason Athletic Training Education Program and completed her graduate studies at East Stroudsburg University in 2016. She currently serves as the primary athletic trainer for the Track & Field/Cross Country program.
Hairston returns to Mason after spending the previous 4 years at Florida Southern College (FSC), where she served as the Associate Athletic Trainer and Insurance Coordinator. During her time at Florida Southern, Hairston implemented concussion return-to-learn procedures and faculty education, annual review and revision of the procedures manual and monthly staff education. She was directly responsible for the care of the men's basketball, softball, golf and cross country/track and field programs. In her previous position as Assistant Athletic Trainer (2016-2019), she was directly responsible for the care of the volleyball, softball, cheer and beach volleyball programs. She also served as a preceptor for the FSC Athletic Training Program. From 2015-2016, Hairston served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at East Stroudsburg University where she was primarily responsible for the care of softball and the 2015 DII National Championship field hockey team.
She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and served as the Athletic Training Association of Florida's Ethnic Diversity and Advisory Committee Chair from August to December 2020. She is excited to return to her alma mater to continue her professional career.
