Tommy Owen is in his fourth season as assistant wrestling coach as the 2014-15 season gets underway. Owen has helped coach the Patriots to a 16-15 dual record in his tenure, improving the team after a winless season three years ago.

A native of Spokane, Wash., Owen was the head coach of Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, Washington where he was named the Washington 4A Region 4 Coach of the Year for the 2010-2011 season. Owen was selected as one of the coaches for the USA University World team at the University World Greco-Roman Championships in Pécs, Hungary from July 7-12, 2014. 

Owen was also an assistant coach at Boise State University in the 2007-08 season where he helped the Broncos to a 2008 PAC 10 championship.  He took over assistant coaching duties after wrestling for two seasons with Boise.   He transferred to the Bronco program following three years of wrestling at the University of Minnesota where he was a two time NCAA Qualifier (2004, 2005) in the 141-pound weight class.

In 2002, Owen qualified for the Junior Pan American Championships in Bogota, Colombia.  He also won the Fila Junior Freestyle Championship in the same year.

Owen was a three-time Washington state champion at University High School and was the runner-up in his other season.  He was also a high school National Champion in 2001, a Cadet National Champion and a 2000 Junior World Team member.  His high school coach was his uncle Don Owen.

Owen has a long family legacy in wrestling which helped him to develop in to a well respected Division I wrestler and Division I wrestling coach.
