Ted Nagorsen was named the head coach of the George Mason rowing program on August 1, 2013. He begins his seventh overall season with Mason and fourth as the head rowing coach entering the 2016-17 season. Nagorsen came to Fairfax after spending two years at Mercyhurst College.
Following the 2011-12 season, Nagorsen was promoted to associate head coach and served in that position for one season before being named head coach.
Nagorsen joined the Patriots in the fall of 2010 and began working with the freshmen class his first year before moving to a varsity coach for the 2011-12 season. Mason saw continued success in Nagorsen's second season as the Varsity 8 had a strong fall campaign with first place finishes at the Occoquan Chase and Head of the Occoquan, in addition to a fourth place finish at the competitive Head of the Charles. In the spring, the V8 reached the Petite Finals of both the Occoquan Sprints and Knecht Cup, while the Second Varsity 8 advanced to the Grand Final at the Occoquan Sprints.
In his inaugural season at Mason, the Novice 8 claimed a gold medal at the Frostbite Regatta as the Second Novice 8 captured a third-place finish in the fall event. Spring action saw highlights from both the Novice 8 and Novice 4 boats as the N8 reached the finals of the Murphy Cup and took a second-place finish in the finals of the Occoquan Sprints. With a second-place finish in the heats and semi-finals of the Knecht Cup, the Novice 4 advanced to Grand Final action.
Following a two-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach, Nagorsen was named a full-time assistant coach July of 2008, replacing Anne Dinshah, at Mercyhurst. He had served as an admissions counselor at the college for two years before moving into the assistant rowing position.
A 2005 Mercyhurst graduate, Nagorsen was a member of the men's lightweight eight that placed second at both the 2004 and 2005 ECAC National Invitational Regatta. He also was on the varsity heavy eight at the 2005 Dad Vail which won the petite final.
Nagorsen began rowing in the fall of 1995 at St. Mary's Preparatory in Orchard Lake, Michigan. He helped his high school rowing program win a national and many state titles. Nagorsen was also a member of the 1998 crew that placed second at the Royal Henley Regatta in England.
Nagorsen began his coaching career at St. Mary's in 1999. He coached the novice program at his high school alma mater, taking them to three state titles and a Midwest championship. While coaching, he continued to train as a competing athlete which helped him develop a better understanding of the sport both as a coach and athlete. Meanwhile, he studied at Oakland University prior to transferring to Mercyhurst in the fall of 2002.
