Biography

2019: Named Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference…Awarded Mason’s Most Improved Female Athlete…Led the team in batting average (.346) and on-base percentage (.391) in 37 appearances…First on the team in stolen bases (8-10)…Finished the season with 28 hits, 28 total bases 12 runs and five RBI…Boasted five multi-hit games…Set a new personal best for RBI in a season with five…Reached a season-high three hits twice this season (at Rhode Island, vs. UMass)…Provided a strong showing at GW (April 17) with two hits, a RBI and run…Scored a season-high two runs vs. Towson (March 27).

2018: Started in 31 games and played in 45... Led the team with 11 stolen bases and fielded all 38 of her chances without committing an error... In her even 100 at-bats, Lawton managed to record her first collegiate extra-base hit, RBI and set career highs in hits (27), runs (17) and walks (9)... Notched a game-high two steals in a victory at Bethune-Cookman (March 13)...Tallied a game-high in hits (2) in a victory against Saint Louis (March 30)...Recorded a career-high four hits and came across the plate twice in a win at St. Bonaventure (April 15)... Went 2-for-4 with a stolen base at La Salle (April 21)... Tallied three hits and her 12th stolen base of the season at UMass (May 5)... Notched her sixth multi-hit game of the season vs. Saint Louis in the A-10 Tournament (May 9)... 

2017: Played in 21 games in her first season with the Patriots, starting 10 of them…led the Patriots with a batting average of .313 on 32 at-bats, producing 10 hits. Lawton was Mason’s most used pinch runner in 2017 and accounted for nine Mason runs. The Dover, Pa. native was also used in the outfield and picked up four putouts as a freshman, including career-high two in her debut at Jacksonville (Feb. 10). She also recorded career-high two hits versus Virginia (April 5) and Georgetown (April 26)…scored her first run for Mason versus Charleston (Feb. 11)…reached base safely in eight games.

Prep: Alyssa Lawton played three years of varsity softball at Dover Area High School while also running varsity cross country for four years, varsity indoor track and field for three years and outdoor track and field for a single season. Lawton's success on the diamond and on the course resulted in her captaining the Eagles in her senior softball and cross country seasons. Lawton's softball accomplishments were culminated with the District 3 3A title in 2014. Two years later, as a senior, she batted a team-best .490 for a team-best .560 on-base percentage, stole team- and league-high 24 bases and committed zero fielding errors to be named on the YIAA First-Team Outfield. Lawton walked away from high school softball as a member of the 2016 Class 3A First Team All-State after two previous honorable mentions.

Personal: Daughter of Mark and Amy Lawton and the oldest of their four children. After so many years of cross country and track and field, Alyssa still enjoys running as one of her hobbies, which also include hiking and photography. She is majoring in psychology.
