Sarana Hyatt finished her third season as an assistant track coach with the men's and women's programs at George Mason in 2017-18. She works with sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers at Mason.
During the 2016-2017 season, Hyatt assisted in both a men’s Atlantic 10 indoor championship title and a women’s outdoor championship title. The A-10 men’s indoor title was the first in program history.
During the 2015-2016 season, Hyatt aided the Patriots in winning the men’s outdoor Atlantic 10 Championship title. Among the highlights of the outdoor championship was Raeshawn Bishop winning both the men’s long jump and triple jump. Bishop was also named the Field Performer of the meet. Under Hyatt's tutelage, Bishop garnered two George Mason track and field all-time performances in both the long jump and triple jump. Indoors, the Patriots captured three of the four horizontal A-10 jumps titles in the men’s triple jump, and the women’s triple jump and long jump. Hyatt has coached seven individual Atlantic 10 champions in the horizontal jumps, three George Mason track and field all-time performances in the men’s long jump and triple jump, one East Region NCAA Qualifier and 27 All-Atlantic 10 performances.
Hyatt joined the Patriots following a season at Columbia University working with sprinters, jumpers, and hurdlers 2014-2015. During her one-year stint at Columbia University, the program garnered five Ivy League Champions, 21 All-Ivy Meet Performances, six All-Time Ivy Performances, one Indoor ECAC champion, four All-ECAC Performances, seven school records, two All-American performances in that specific group. Coach Hyatt also volunteered at Columbia University in 2011-2012. While volunteering at Columbia University she assisted in sprints, jumps, and hurdle events. During her time there she helped one All-American, three Regional qualifiers, three Ivy-League Heptagonal Champions and nine All-Ivy League Finishers. During Hyatt’s time there, the women’s team won its first Ivy League Conference title in the history of the program.
Prior to Columbia University, Hyatt coached sprints, jumps, hurdles, and throws at La Salle University in 2013-2014. While at La Salle, her event group had six All-Atlantic 10 finishers, one All-IC4A Finisher, and one school record holder. Â
Hyatt was a standout performer and school-record holder in the multi-events at Sacred Heart University. During her time with the Pioneers, she was a four-time All New England performer in the pentathlon, heptathlon, and intermediate hurdles and runner-up at the 2009 ECAC Indoor championships in the pentathlon. She also generated multiple all conference performances in the NEC in the 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles, long jump, high jump, and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. She was also a member of the 2008 NEC Outdoor championship team, which was the first in program history.
Hyatt’s knowledge base is quite extensive as well. After procuring a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, she furthered her degree and earned a Master’s of Science in Exercise Science and Nutrition with a focus on performance. Hyatt is also USATF Level I, USTFCCCA Technical Coach of Track and Field (2012), USTFCCCA Jumps Specialist (2013), USTFCCCA Sprints/Hurdles/Relays (2014), USTFCCCA Throws (2015) Specialist, and USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist (2014) certified.
