Vinh Do

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Vinh Do enters his first season as an assistant coach for the men's tennis team in the spring of 2017. Do's career up to date includes an extensive track record of training young student-athletes to successfully compete in college programs, developing junior tennis programs in northern Virginia and earning awards for his contributions to the world of tennis.

Since 2001, graduates of his tennis programs have matriculated at various universities as student-athletes, including UVA, Cornell, Mason, MIT, University of Chicago, Colgate, and the United States Military Academy. He also taught and mentored two current Div. I coaches and taught the International Tennis Federation's No. 5-ranked player in the world. Tournament play is also a strength for Do with his students having earned three Gold Balls and one Silver Ball at national championships.

In addition, he has been on the Coaches Commission (best youth coaches in Mid-Atlantic) since 2009 and was named the Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year in 2007. Do has also had the distinction of serving as Team USA's Under-10 coach at the prestigious Smirkve Bowl, the world championship for that age classification.

In 2000 Do teamed up with Fairfax Racquet Club to create the leading junior tennis program in the area. His program had 200 students at the outset and has grown to over 800 students per year. Currently, he serves as Founding Director of the Junior Program there.

Do’s Summer Tournament Training Camps are an integral part of his coaching and mentoring legacy. Established in 2007 with 20 total students, the camps now help an average of 80 student-athletes per day to advance their tennis skills. During the summer, the number of student-athletes involved rapidly grows to 200. Since their establishment, the Tournament Training Camps have been providing annual scholarships for talented and hard-working tennis athletes.

Never satisfied with his accomplishments, Do also founded the Thai Tennis Organization of America, The Asian Festival (Reston, VA), and a USTA Pro-Circuit event that was adopted by the WTA. He also has a 15-year history of generous volunteerism that includes the donation of an extensive number of private lessons to student-athletes from underserved communities each year.

As a private coach, Vinh maintains a two-year waitlist in the Northern Virginia area, and is in demand as a coach and clinician across the country.
