George Mason alum Ellis Messian begins his first season as an assistant coach with the men's golf program entering the 2018-19 season.
Messian played for the Patriots from 2014-18. The San Diego native started his career as a walk-on, earned a scholarship and ranked as high as second in scoring average on the team during his final season in 2017-18.
Messian played in 37 tournaments for the Patriots, finishing in the top three on the team in scoring average his last two seasons. His career-best eighth-place finish at the Navy Invitational in April 2017 helped catapult the Patriots to the first team title in four years. During the 2017-18 season, he ranked second on the team with a 75.24 stroke average and posted two top 15 finishes.
