Larry Fain is in his 16th year at George Mason and his fifth season
as a member of the Patriot basketball staff. Prior to his current
appointment, Fain spent the past 11 years at the Recreation Sports
Complex (Fieldhouse) as the assistant and head athletic services
manager, providing administrative, equipment and material support for
all of George Mason's intercollegiate teams, except basketball.
In his role as basketball operations manager, Fain, who assists
both the men's and women's basketball programs, is responsible for
purchasing, receiving, storing, distribution and inventory of all
basketball related equipment, acts as the visiting team liaison and
supervises the men's and women's basketball team managers.
Fain retired from the Army as a Sergeant First Class in 1992
after 22 years of service, having served two tours in Germany, one in
South Korea and one tour in Vietnam with the Marine Corp from 1968-69.
He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1998 with a bachelor's
degree in healthcare management, and is certified as an athletic
equipment manager from the Athletic Equipment Managers Association.
A native of Ashford, Ala. and a graduate of Essie R. Grimsley
High School, where he played basketball, football and baseball, Fain and
his wife of more than 25 years, Roilene, reside in Lake Ridge, Va. The
couple has four children and eight grandchildren.
