The George Mason women's soccer team headed out into the
community last week to take part in the Road DAWG event at Mason District Park
in Annandale, Va. The Road DAWG (Don't Associate With Gangs) is a one-week
summer camp for middle school youth who are at risk of substance abuse or gang involvement.
The Patriots led a two-hour camp with the youth that
involved games such as handball, World Cup and soccer scrimmages. A video
recapping the event can be seen above.
Road DAWG:
- Connects
kids with after-school programs in their schools and communities.
- Looks
at individual/family needs and links to resources.
- Continues
contact with youth and families.
- Includes
follow-up activities throughout the year.
