Biography

2021-22:  The grad student finished 20-4 in his final season with the Green and Gold… Named as the first alternate to the NCAA Championships at 149 pounds… Ranked as high as #21 this season in the NCAA D1 Wrestling Coaches rankings… Finished sixth at the MAC Championships… A medical forfeit knocked him out of the semi-final match at the conference tournament kept him from an automatic bid.
 
2020-21:  Did not wrestle in shortened season.

2019-20:  Granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA and will return to Mason as a educational psychology graduate program to pursue a Master's in Psychology... The 141-pounder finished his first season competing for the Patriots with a season-high 28 wins (28-15), including 10-6 in dual action... Designated an NCAA Alternate for the NCAA Championship... Ranked as high as 17th nationally... Won the NCAA Most Technical Falls award in Division I, led all NCAA Division I wrestlers in tech falls by a landslide with 14, five more than the trio of Spencer Lee (Iowa), Pat Glory (Princeton) and Nicholas Piccininni (Oklahoma State)... Granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.... Ranked 17th nationally in WIN's NCAA Preseason Rankings at 141 pounds, Madrigal is ranked t-5 in the preseason conference ranking with Clarion's junior Taylor Ortz... Earned a third-place finish at 141 at the Southeast Open opening weekend, losing to eventual champion Joshua Heil (Campbell), 3-2 in the semi-finals... Madrigal rolled through the first two matches, winning by technical fall 17-2 against Brandon Bright (Gardner-Webb) and defeating VMI's Dominick Gallo, 12-0, then defeated Missouri's Alex Butler in the third place match...Finished with a 5-1 record at the Navy Classic (Nov. 23)... At the Navy Classic, earned a sixth-place finish.... Defeated S. Hanson-Ashworth by fall (2:23) before coming up short in the round of 32 to American's S. Profaci, 6-4... Won two bouts by technical fall, 17-2 (3:33) against J. Dado and 16-1 (5:00) against C. Ciotti and defeated top-20 wrestler G. Willits from Oregon State, 7-5... He finished sixth at the MAC Championships at 141 pounds...Earned National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Academic All-American... Member of the MAC All-Academic Team... Won the Jerry Mullins Coaches Appreciation Award given out at the end of the year wrestling banquet.

2018-19:  Did not compete... Sat out the 2018-19 season after having offseason surgery. 

Prior to Mason (Old Dominion):  Two-time NCAA qualifier (133/141) while competing for the Monarchs...Qualified for the 2018 NCAA Championships at 141 pounds after receiving an at-large bid...Finished the 2017-18 season with a 20-11 record and a seventh-place finish in the MAC Championships...Qualified for the 2017 NCAA Championships as a redshirt freshman at 133 pounds after a fifth-place finish at the MAC Championships...In 2015-16, recorded an 18-6 record while competing in open tournaments as a redshirt at 125 and 133 pounds...Runner up at the East Stroudsburg Open and posted third-place finishes at the Hokie Open and N.C. State Wolfpack Open...Career record of 32-24 at Old Dominion.

Prep:  Two-year wrestling letterwinner at Oak Park and River Forest High School…Runner-up at the 2015 Illinois State Championships as a senior and took fifth as a junior…Two-time Illinois state placer…Placed third at the 2014 USAW Preseason Nationals at 120 pounds...Went undefeated at the 2014 USAW Scholastic Duals...Finished career ranked in the top 10 by InterMat at 120 pounds...Selected West Suburban All-Conference…Team captain of the Huskies.
 
Personal:  Son of Guillermina and Javier…Has three siblings, Agustin, Lucy and Anthony…Plans to major in psychology... Pursuing a Master's in Psychology.
