Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team traveled north to Annapolis, Maryland, this past weekend to participate in the Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational hosted by the US Naval Academy. The Patriots competed against teams from Navy, University of Maryland, Lehigh, Monmouth, Morgan State, Delaware State, and University of Mary Washington.

Maya Bayat, Rowan Scronce, Brooklyn Siegel, Gray Feaster, and Lakshya Motam all won opening round matches on Friday. On Saturday, Scronce won both matches to make it to the singles final of the C Flight, but unfortunately had to default her finals match on Sunday due to an injury.

The Patriot duo of Rowan Scronce and Lakshya Motam made it through to the finals of the C Doubles Flight before falling to the Delaware State team of Celia Torrelles and Maite Bou Safont 5-7.

"The first event of the season shows us where we are and where we need to be", commented Coach Steve Curtis. "I was very pleased with how we competed and how we represented the Green & Gold this weekend against very strong opponents".

The Patriots are back in action this weekend as they travel to Baltimore for the Towson 4-1 Invitational. The tournament will be held from Friday, September 25, to Sunday, September 27.
