Durham, N.C. – The George Mason men's golf team officially kicks off its 2026-27 campaign this coming Monday, and looks to build on its record-setting 2025-26 season, as the team heads to Duke University to compete in the Rod Myers Invitational.
The Patriots will compete at the Duke University Golf Club in Durham, North Carolina, on Monday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 22. The first and second rounds of competition will take place on Monday, and the final round will take place on Tuesday.
George Mason will be competing against Duke, Furham, Harvard, Northern Illinois, Princeton, Richmond, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, UTSA, Virginia Tech, Wofford, and Xavier in this tournament.
JJ Powell returns for his senior campaign with George Mason. Powell finished the 2025-26 season with a 73.23 scoring average, which is the 14
th-best in program history, and maintained a 1.23 scoring average against par, the 11
th-best in program history. He carded 99 birdies on the season, the seventh-most by any Patriot in a season, and six eagles, tying the program record for a single season.
Philipp Krone returns for his sophomore season with George Mason. Krone earned A10 Freshman of the Week honors during his freshman campaign and finished the 2025-26 season with the 13th-best season scoring average (73.19).
