FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's tennis team earned recognition for its success in the classroom, being named a 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, while seven Patriots were selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes, the organization announced Monday.
Representing George Mason on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list were
Mary Young, Maitree Rout,
Shivaani Ganesh,
Cenan Liu,
Maya Bayat,
Noelle Talarek, and
Avleen Waraich.
"I am pleased that we have been able to continue our high academic standards that have been established within our program," Head Coach Steve Curtis said. "It is always a high priority and I am very proud of our student athletes."
In 2026, 1,501 Division I women's tennis student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition, while 231 programs across the country received ITA All-Academic Team honors.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average during the academic year. To receive ITA All-Academic Team recognition, programs must maintain a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
