KINGSTON, R.I. — George Mason softball (26-25, 10-14 A-10) fell to Rhode Island (21-26, 9-15 A-10) 2-3 at the URI Softball Complex on Sunday, May 3, marking the series finale of the three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series. The Rams completed the series sweep, with a 6-3 win in the opening game and an 8-3 victory in game two.
Rhode Island capitalized on a two-run first inning to secure the win. The Patriots managed six hits in the contest, but Rhody countered with 10 hits to edge out the victory. The Rams' starting pitcher, Brooke Gerry, threw a complete game and recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts, effectively stifling the George Mason offense.

In the second inning, the Patriots responded as Kaleigh Friend scored from second base on a single through the right side by Madi Sobota, closing the gap to 2-1.
The fifth inning saw Rhode Island extend its lead. A single to right field by Rayah Snyder brought in a run, making it 3-1 at the end of the fifth.
George Mason continued to fight back in the sixth inning. Tess Altevers Harris advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Alyssa Hopkins to right center, bringing the score to 3-2.
The game concluded with no further runs scored, resulting in a final score of 3-2 as Rhode Island earned the victory.
Harlowe Nigh started the game, pitching 5.0 innings while allowing nine hits and three earned runs. Nigh struck out four batters and issued two walks over a season-high total of 85 pitches. Abbey Lane relieved in the sixth inning, pitching 1.0 scoreless inning with one hit, one walk, and one strikeout, throwing 21 pitches.
Alyssa Hopkins recorded two hits, including a double, and drove in one run. Logan Pickford also contributed with two hits during the game. Sobota added one hit and one RBI, along with a walk.
