FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots completed a three-game sweep against George Washington with a 6-5 win on Sunday afternoon at Spuhler Field.
THE LEADOFF
- Sophomore left fielder Lucas Alberti had two hits, one RBI and scored two runs.
- Senior shortstop Owen Clyne had two hits and scored two runs.
- Junior first baseman Matthew Westley drove in a pair of runs.
- The Patriots had at least one base runner in 26 of the 27 innings in the series and totaled 30 runs on 42 hits over the three games.
Goerge Mason (22-23, 13-11 A-10) took the lead against George Washington (17-29, 9-15 A-10) sophomore starter Declan Wywoda in the bottom of the first. With one out, Clyne singled to right field and Alberti singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. Graduate student center fielder
Luciano Terilli then plated a run with a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.

Jake Butler led off the bottom of the second with a single through the left side, went to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice bunt by graduate student catcher
Logan Vaughan to make it 2-0.
George Washington took the lead in the top of the fourth. The Revolutionaries plated two runs with RBI-singles against Patriots freshman starter
Aiden Parker and another with a RBI-single against graduate student reliever
Diego Cardenas to make it a 3-2 game.
With one out in the home half of the fifth, Alberti was hit by a pitch and stole second. Westley delivered with a two-out RBI-single up the middle, with Alberti rumbling around to score the tying run.
The Patriots took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh against Wywoda and George Washington sophomore relievers Nathan Murphy and Jonas Aponick. Freshman second baseman
Jackson Morse and Clyne began the inning with singles to put runners on first and second. Alberti knocked in a run with a single through the right side to vault the Patriots to a 4-3 advantage.
Terilli was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Westley and Butler each drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-3 Patriots.
In the top of the eighth, the Revolutionaries put runners on first and second with a walk and a single. After a pitching change, George Washington scored a run with a RBI-double and another on a wild pitch against Patriots redshirt-junior reliever
Owen Stewart to make it a one-run game.

Logan Rumberg pitched the ninth and after allowing a leadoff single, ended the game with a foul out, fly out and ground out to notch his first save of the season.
For the Patriots, Parker allowed three runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings. Cardenas (4-5) gave up two runs on three hits in 3.2 innings and earned the win. Stewart retired two batters in the outing with strikeouts. Rumberg pitched the ninth to post his first save of the season.Â
For the Revolutionaries, Wywoda (2-4) allowed six runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings and took the loss.
Alberti went 2-for-4 with a single, hit by pitch, RBI and scored two runs. Clyne was 2-for-4 with two singles, a walk and scored twice. Westley finished 1-for-3 and drove in two runs.
The Patriots are on the road for their final midweek game of the season against William & Mary on Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va.
