FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's tennis has added sophomore transfer student-athlete Izzy Rotaru to its roster ahead of the 2026-27 season, Head Coach Steve Curtis announced.

Rotaru joins the Patriots after a standout freshman season at University of Mary Washington, where she posted a 16-4 singles record while competing primarily in the top singles positions for the Eagles. In doubles play, she compiled a 14-5 overall record alongside multiple partners during the 2025-26 campaign.

The Ashburn, Va. native also earned Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors during her freshman season following several strong performances.

Prior to her collegiate career, Rotaru built an impressive resume at Broad Run High School, capturing seven Virginia state championships across singles, doubles and team competition. In 2025, she completed a "triple crown," winning all three state championship titles.

Rotaru also found success on the junior circuit. According to TRN.net, she reached a career-high national ranking of No. 168 while also ranking as high as No. 2 in Virginia. She comes from a strong tennis family background, as her younger sister, Lexy is also a highly ranked national player.

"We are very excited to have Izzy joining our Patriot family," commented Head Coach Steve Curtis. "As a lefty she brings variety and a wealth of experience to our starting lineup."
