Five Patriots Earn Baseball All-Confernce Acolades

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference released their end of season awards today with five Patriots earning All-Conference honors.

Senior shortstop Owen Clyne was selected First Team All-Conference shortstop for the second straight year and was also named to the 13-member A-10 All-Academic Team.

Senior Logan Rumberg and sophomore Jake Drumm were each named Second Team All-Conference starting pitcher, while sophomore Lucas Alberti was tabbed Second Team All-Conference outfielder.

Freshman pitcher Aiden Parker was selected to the 12-member All-Rookie Team.

ALL-CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM

OWEN CLYNE – SHORTSTOP

Clyne, from Wichita, Kansas, started all 52 games at shortstop during the regular season.  He's a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award for the top shortstop in the nation.  Clyne led the team in hits (70), triples (3), home runs (9), RBI (50), walks (35), runs scored (54), slugging percentage (.571), on-base percentage (.443) and total bases (116), tied for first on the club in batting average (.345) and was second in doubles (13) and stolen bases (21).  

Clyne had three hitting streaks of at least nine games (9 games 4/10-4/24, 11 games 2/14-3/8, 13 games 3/13-4/3) and recorded 18 multi-hit games, 16 multi-run games and 14 multi-RBI games.  He reached base at least once in 46 of 52 games.  Against A-10 opponents, Clyne hit .342 with all nine of his home runs in conference play, led the club in RBI (38), total bases (73), walks (25) and runs scored (35), and tied for first in hits (38) in conference play.

ALL-CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM

LOGAN RUMBERG – STARTING PITCHER


Rumberg, from Okotoks, Alberta, Canada, led the team with 14 starts as the Friday starter, and tied for second in appearances with 16.  He paced the Patriots in wins (6), innings pitched (78.0), strikeouts (86) and held opponents to a .215 batting average.  Against A-10 opponents he posted a 4-2 record with a 3.81 ERA, one save, and 57 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work and among league leaders, ranked second in strikeouts (86) and strikeouts looking (27), fourth in innings pitched (78.0), tied for the fourth-most wins (6), and was fifth in ERA (3.92) and opponent batting average (.215).

Rumberg pitched at least 5.0 innings nine times, at least 6.0 innings eight times and worked at least 7.0 innings four times.  He tied his career high of nine strikeouts in a game three separate games (at Saint Louis 3/27, at Saint Joseph's 4/17, vs. George Washington 5/1) and notched at least six strikeouts in nine of his 14 starts.  Rumberg was the starting pitcher in George Mason's fourth no-hitter in program history, working 6.0 innings with six strikeouts in a combined no-hitter against Lehigh on March 1 in a 3-0 win.

JAKE DRUMM – STARTING PITCHER

Drumm, from Burke, Va., made 15 appearances with 10 starts and finished the season with a 4-2 record, led the team in ERA (3.90) and was second in innings pitched (67.0), strikeouts (65) and starts (10), and was fourth in appearances (15).  He recorded at least five strikeouts nine times, worked at least 5.0 innings nine times, at least 6.0 innings five times and at least 7.0 innings two times.

Against A-10 opponents Drumm went 4-2 with a 3.72 ERA in 55.2 innings with 50 strikeouts and just 13 walks in league play.  He ranked in the top-15 in the league in ERA (3.90), innings (67.0) and strikeouts (65) against conference foes.

LUCA ALBERTI – OUTFIELD

Alberti, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, started all 52 games in left field, ranked second on the club in home runs (6), RBI (42), walks (31), stolen bases (22), slugging percentage (.459) and total bases (90), and was third in batting average (.321) and hits (63).  He recorded 17 multi-hit games, 12 multi-run games and nine multi-RBI games.

Alberti had a nine-game hitting streak (3/3-3/18), six game streak (4/28-5/8) and five game streak (3/21-3/28).  He reached base at least once in 45 of 52 games and had at least one hit in 39 of 52 games.  Against A-10 opponents, he led the team with a .352 batting average, tied for first in hits (38), tied for second in RBI (23), and was second in runs scored (38) and walks (22) in conference play.

ALL-CONFERENCE ROOKIE TEAM

AIDEN PARKER


Parker, from Virginia Beach, Va., made 12 appearances with eight starts his freshman season with a 3-0 record and 4.42 ERA.  He was fourth on the club in starts (8), fifth in innings pitches (36.2) and tied for the sixth-most appearances (12).  Against A-10 opponents, made six appearances with four starts and a 2-0 record with a 4.05 ERA in 20.0 innings pitched.
