Jake Butler each had three hits, and sophomore starting pitcher
Jake Drumm allowed just one hit in his outing in the Patriots 10-4 win over La Salle in the middle game of the series on Friday afternoon at Spuhler Field.
THE LEADOFF
- Drumm retired the first 11 batters of the game and just one hit over four innings in his outing.
- Terilli had three hits, three RBI and scored two runs.
- Bulter finished with three hits, one RBI and scored two runs.
- Five players each scored two runs in the game for the Patriots.
George Mason (27-24, 17-12 A-10) took the lead against La Salle (24-20, 8-21 A-10) junior starter Titus Shay in the bottom of the first. Freshman third baseman
Jackson Morse singled and moved to second on a passed ball, and senior shortstop
Owen Clyne followed with run-scoring double to right-center to put the Patriots in front. Sophomore left fielder Lucan Alberti bunted his way on to put runners on the corners and Clyne stole home to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of third, the Patriots sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs on two hits, four walk and two errors to increase the lead to 7-0. Morse, Clyne and Alberti each walked with one out to load the bases before Terilli had a two-run single, Butler a RBI-single and freshman second baseman
Julius Bagnerise also plated a run.
The Patriots scored three more runs in the home half of the seventh against La Salla junior reliever Shawn Karpaitis. Terilli drove in a run with a single, Blanchard had a RBI-groundout and Bagnerise plated the Patriots final run of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 10-0.
The Explorers scored two runs on two hits in the eighth against Patriots graduate student
Diego Cardenas and two runs on two hits in the ninth against George Mason graduate student
Carter Kelsey for the 10-4 final score.
For the Patriots, Drumm (4-2) tossed 4.0 innings of one-hit ball to earn the win. Redshirt-junior
Owen Stewart pitched 2.0 innings and allowed one hit.
For the Explorers, Shay (2-3) allowed five runs on four hits in 2.1 innings and took the loss. Karpaitis surrendered three runs on three hits in the eighth inning.
The Patriots wrap up the regular season against the Explorers on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for noon on Senior Day at Spuhler Field.
