FAIRFAX, Va. – The Patriots recorded season highs in hits and runs in a 16-1 win over George Washington in the first of a three-game series on Friday afternoon at Spuhler Field.
THE LEADOFF
- Every player in the lineup had at least one hit, seven players had a multi-hit game and seven players drove in at least two runs.
- Senior designated hitter Evan Blanchard had three hits, two RBI and scored two runs.
- Graduate student catcher Logan Vaughan had three hits, two RBI and scored two runs.
- Sophomore left fielder Lucas Alberti had two hits, three RBI and scored three runs.
- Junior first baseman Matthew Westley had two hits, two RBI and scored three runs.
- Senior starting pitcher Logan Rumberg scattered four hits over six innings to earn his fifth win of the season and tied his season and career-high with nine strikeouts.
- The Patriots drew a season-high 13 walks.
George Washington (17-27, 9-13 A-10) took the lead over George Mason (20-23, 11-11 A-10) with an unearned run in the top of the second inning. Junior third baseman Cristino Tugano reached on a fielding error to start the inning and scored on a wild pitch for the Revolutionaries only run of the game.
In the home half of the second, Blanchard led off with a single and Vaughan walked against George Washington junior starter Gavin Miller. Senior right fielder

Jackson Morse drove in a run with a ground out to tie the score 1-1.
In the bottom of the third, the Patriots sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs on four hits and four walks against Miller and George Washington sophomore reliever Jasper Nadel to take a 7-1 lead. Senior shortstop

Jake Butler each had a two-run single in the inning, while Morse and Vaughan each plated a run with a single.
Westley was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the fourth, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI-single by Blanchard to make it 8-1.
In the home half of the fifth, the Patriots added three runs on five hits against Revolutionaries junior reliever Drew Oppenheim. Clyne had the Patriots only extra-base hit in the game with a double, while Alberti, Westley and Blanchard registered RBI-singles in the inning to extend the advantage to 11-1.
George Mason had another big inning in the bottom of the eighth, scoring five runs on six hits and two walks against George Washington sophomore Aidan Carey and freshman Ryan Barks. Vaughan singled to start the inning, Canody was hit by a pitch and Morse walked to load the bases. With one out, Alberti ripped a two-run single to left field. Graduate student center fielder

For the Patriots, Rumberg (5-2) allowed an unearned run on four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks in 6.0 innings to earn the win. Junior

Blanchard was 3-for-4 with two walks, two RBI and two runs scored. Vaughan was 3-for-5 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Alberti finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Westley went 2-for-3 with two walks, hit by pitch, two RBI and three runs scored.
For the Revolutionaries, Miller (3-2) allowed four runs on one hit and eight walks in 2.0 innings and took the loss. Nader surrendered four runs on five hits in 2.0 innings. Oppenheim gave up three runs on four hits in 1.0 inning of work. Carey allowed three runs on three hits in 2.0 innings. Barks was charged with two runs on five hits in the eighth.
George Mason and George Washington will play the middle game of the series on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Spuhler Field.
