TOWSON, Md. — George Mason softball (20-17, 7-8 A-10) powered past Towson (19-18, 4-8 CAA) with a commanding 10-1 win on Tuesday, April 7, at Tiger Softball Stadium. The performance marked a season-high of 10 runs for George Mason and continued their streak of achieving at least nine hits in five consecutive games. The team scored four runs in the first inning and five in the second, setting the tone early in the game.
In the first inning, George Mason's
Logan Pickford initiated the offense with a leadoff single, later scoring on
Meghan Gray's single.
Kamryn Inman's base hit then brought home Gray and
Tess Altevers Harris.
Madi Sobota capped the inning with an RBI single, bringing the score to 4-0 in favor of the Patriots.
The second inning saw further dominance from the Green & Gold.
Jessica Chan walked and Pickford doubled, both scoring on
Maddie Lemasters' two-RBI single. Gray then recorded her first career triple, driving in two more runs. Inman's sacrifice fly added another run, extending the lead to 9-0.
In the fourth inning, the Patriots added to the tally after
Alyssa Hopkins singled and later scored on Gray's third hit of the game. The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run by Isabella Canesi, making it 10–1 by the end of the inning.
No further runs were scored, and the game ended after five innings due to the run rule.
Alyssa Rangel pitched 4.0 innings for the Patriots, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out one batter. She issued three walks, contributing to a WHIP of 1.75, and surrendered a solo home run.
Harlowe Nigh entered the game in relief, pitching 1.0 scoreless inning without allowing a hit or a walk, striking out one batter and finishing with a perfect WHIP of 0.00.
Gray delivered a standout performance, scoring twice while recording a season-high three hits, including a triple, and driving in a season-high four runs.
Alyssa Hopkins made a strong impact with two stolen bases and a season-high two runs scored. Inman was also effective at the plate, driving in a season-high three runs and scoring once. Pickford extended her hot streak, recording at least two hits for the third consecutive game.
The Patriots return home to face St. Louis in a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series at GMU Softball Complex. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 11 at 12 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday, April 12 at noon as well.
