Orlando, Fla.
– The George Mason men's golf team couldn't hold off a red-hot Richmond squad in the final round of the Atlantic 10 Championship, but the Patriots made program history with a runner-up finish.

The second-place result marks George Mason's best finish since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2013-14, surpassing its previous best of third place in 2022. As a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), the Patriots top finish was also third place in 2011.

The Green & Gold (-4) were steady throughout the three-day championship and remained in contention from the opening round. Entering the final round, Mason held a four-stroke lead over in-state rivals VCU (+1) and Richmond (+1). The Spiders surged with a tournament-best 7-under-par team round on day two to climb into contention, then closed with a blistering 15-under-par final round to claim the championship with an overall team 14-under-par score.

VCU (+1) finished third, five strokes behind Mason, followed by Rhode Island at 2-over-par.

Sophomore Vaughn McMeans finished in the top 10, leading the Patriots with a seventh-place finish at 3-under-par on the par-72, 7,085-yard Cypress Course. His finish improved on last season's 15th-place showing at the 2025 A-10 Championship.

The Leesburg, Va., native recovered after a 2-over-par second round with a 3-under-par final round today. McMeans had a steady round today, notching two birdies in the first three holes. He remained consistent throughout the round with only one bogey.

Sophomore Uzair Mirza also finished in the top 10 despite opening the tournament with a 77. He responded with a season-best 4-under-par 68 in the second round and followed with a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to finish tied for 10th, improving on his 17th-place finish at the 2025 A-10 Championship.

Two additional Patriots finished inside the top 20 of the 71-player field.

Sophomore David Fuhrer (71-72-75) tied for 16th, while junior JJ Powell posted one of the steadiest tournaments of the week, finishing at 3-over-par (73-73-73).

Playing in his first A-10 Championship, Philipp Krone finished 25th overall with a 5-over-par score.

Richmond placed three golfers in the top five, led by individual champion Lucas Rizo-Patron. The Spider standout finished at 13-under-par, four strokes ahead of runner-up Carson Looney of VCU.
