Patriots in second after First Round of Play at A-10 Golf Championships

Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason men's golf team sits in second place after the first of three rounds at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship, held April 27-28 at the Evermore Orlando Resort's Cypress Course. 

The Patriots (-2) are one stoke back of in-state rival VCU (-3) and seven strokes ahead of third-place Dayton (+5).  

The Green and Gold are the only team that has three players in the top 10 on the leaderboard.

Vaughn McMeans led George Mason today with a 3-under-par 69 at the Par 72, 7,085-Yard Cypress Course at the Evermore Orlando Resort. He was 2-under par at the turn, but began the second nine with two bogeys. The Leesburg, Va., native notched an eagle on the Par 5, Hole 13 and a birdie on Hole 14 before ending with a bogey on the final hole.

Sophomore David Fuhrer is also under par after the first round at 1-under. After a bogey, double-bogey start, Fuhrer responded with seven straight pars to finish out the first nine and five birdies in the second nine. He stands in fifth place heading into round two tomorrow.

Freshman Philipp Krone is t-9 after scoring even par today. Junior JJ Powell carded a one-over par 73 today with three birdies, tying him for 14th overall in the 61-golfer field.
 
Round two begins with tee times at 7:30 am at holes 1 and 10.
