BRONX, N.Y. – The Patriots dropped both games of a doubleheader at Fordham on Sunday at Houlihan Park in Bronx, N.Y. The Rams won the first game, 2-1 in seven innings, and the night cap 5-4 in 12 innings.
GAME ONE
George Mason (19-21, 10-10 A-10) sophomore starter
Jake Drumm and Fordham (21-23, 11-9 A-10) sophomore starter Chase Hanawalt kept the game scoreless through four innings.
The Patriots took the lead in the top of the fifth. Graduate student catcher
Logan Vaughan was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice fly. With two outs, freshman second baseman
Julius Bagnerise delivered a RBI-single to right field to put the Patriots in front, 1-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Rams graduate student first baseman Joey Donnelly tied the game with a solo home run to left field.
The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff triple and two intentional walks. After a pitching change, Fordham sophomore center fielder Tommy Markey singled to right off George Mason senior
Logan Rumberg to lift the Rams to a 2-1 win.
For the Patriots, Drumm (3-2) was charged with two runs on five hits in 6.0 innings and took the loss.
For the Rams, Hanawalt (3-5) gave up one run on six hits in 7.0 innings and earned the complete-game win.
GAME TWO
The Patriots (19-22, 10-11 A-10) sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs on four hits in the top of the second against Rams (22-23, 12-9 A-10) junior starter Aidan Down.

Matthew Westley each singled to load the bases. Freshman third baseman
Jackson Morse then walked to force in the first run of the game.

Vincent Cowdrey reached on a fielding error, with Butler scoring on the play to make it 2-0. Senior right fielder
Drew Canody drove in a run with a single to right field and Bagnerise plated another on a pop out to make the score 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams began the inning with a single and a walk against Patriots freshman starter
Aiden Parker. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position, the Rams got on the board with a RBI ground out.
In the home half of the eighth, Donnelly doubled in a run against Patriots graduate student
Diego Cardenas to trim the lead to 4-2.
Fordham tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out rally. A single and double put two runners in scoring position. Rams sophomore second baseman Taylor Kirk doubled to center off Patriots graduate student reliever
Carter Kelsey to send the game into extra innings 4-4.
In the bottom of the 12
th, the Rams put runners on second and third when sophomore shortstop Anthony Grabau was hit by a pitch and Donnelly doubled to left-center with one-out against redshirt-junior
Owen Stewart. Rams junior designated hitter Madden Ocko then sent a grounder back to the pitcher, with Grabau scoring the winning run.
For the Patriots, Parker allowed one run on three hits in 4.0 innings. Cardenas was charged with three runs on four hits in 4.2 innings. Stewart (3-4) gave up one run on one hit in 2.2 innings.
For the Rams, Dowd allowed four runs on five hits in 3.2 innings. Three Rams relievers combined for 8.1 hitless innings. Freshman Decal Cawley (2-3) worked 4.0 hitless innings and earned the win.
The Patriots are back on the road to face No. 10 Virginia on Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Disharoon Park in Charlottesville, Va.
